GREENVILLE, Pa. - Nov. 12, 2020 - PRLog -- Thiel College announces Alexa Banic '21, of Greenville, Pa., and Makenna Sanders '21, of Newbury, Ohio, as the Student of the Month honorees for November.

The Student of the Month is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College (, with only about six seniors each semester earning the honor.

Banic is the President of Kappa Delta Pi education honorary society and leader of the Thiel Bible study. Banic also was secretary for Lambda Sigma sophomore honorary society. She was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a member of the cross country and indoor/outdoor track teams. She has been on the Dean's List for each of her six semesters at Thiel.

Outside of Thiel, Banic is the co-coordinator and instructor of Commodore Perry's STEAM Academy for students 4th-8th grade. Additionally, she has been an instructor for the Lakeview Elementary School Summer Wellness Camp and summer STEAM camps in Mercer County.

Banic is a 2017 graduate of Greenville High School majoring in Early Childhood and Special Education. Following graduation, Banic plans to begin her career as a primary/special education teacher and enroll in a master's program. Banic is the daughter of Kimberly and Christopher Banic of Greenville, Pa.

Sanders is a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, the Thiel College Band, the Thiel Players, and the chapel staff. He is a member of the Phi Alpha Theta history honorary society, the Theta Alpha Kappa honor society for religious studies and theology, and the Alpha Psi Omega theater honorary society. Sanders has volunteered at the American Legion Post in Greenville and has been Kappa Sigma's philanthropy chair, raising money for the Kappa Sigma American Heroes Fund.

Sanders is a 2017 graduate of Newbury High School majoring in philosophy and minoring in history and religion. After graduation, he plans on attending seminary and pursuing ordination, but is also considering attending law school. He is the son of Marty and Jocelyn Sanders, of Newbury, Ohio.

"(I am) especially grateful for the attention and care from the professors who (I have) had the honor of being instructed by," Sanders said.
