Edtech Transforms Learning Outcomes In Southeast Asia

By: PeriSea

CENTRAL, Singapore - Nov. 4, 2020 - PRLog -- There are roughly 700 million people who live in Southeast Asia. Due to the global COVID-19 health crisis, many schools and education centers are unable to operate as usual. This has led many schools to adopt the education technology (EdTech) tool. It is used to organize and administer classes for students. EdTech in Southeast Asia employs means like websites, online tutorials quizzes, streaming videos, and mobile applications to facilitate education.

The inability to get a proper education in Southeast Asia.

Unlike the urban areas, the rural regions of Southeast Asia (SEA), lacks development, and there are not enough trained teachers. This means that children are not getting the needed education. The teachers are not adequately paid, while there are more students than teachers which further contributes to the low education quality. People who can afford private education prefer to take their kids to such schools. However, students who are unable to afford private tuition are forced to make do under the existing school system. This leads to an increasing gap in unequal education among children.

But, EdTech is such an innovative tool that seems to solve most of the problems that students face. The tool helps to solve the problem of the absence of studying facilities and the problem with distance. EdTech also comes at a minimized cost. Students of all ages even working adults can get access to a quality education with an internet connection.

EdTech in Southeast Asia serves as a solution to educational problems.

SEA has lots of mobile internet subscribers. In 2019, approximately 97 million mobile phones were sold in the region. This fact makes the region a good area to implement EdTech programs. Not to mention that in the past five years, the SEA has managed to put together roughly $480 million as funds to invest in the EdTech start-up program.

Currently, a lot of EdTech start-ups located within the SEA (https://www.peritiasea.com/) region like Classruum (Malaysia), Ruangguru (Indonesia), Taamkru (Thailand), and Topica (Vietnam) are looking to close up the gap in the region's education by providing accessible quality education for those who need it. Hanoi-based Topica, seeks to increase the number of talents through empowering the youths with the skills required to function effectively in a professional environment in this digital era. It currently delivers over 3,000 online courses with topics ranging from programming to social media marketing. They have already trained over 6,000 students to date. ASEAN's skills-based education (https://www.peritiasea.com/) by EdTech might just be the solution needed by students to consolidate their school-based education to gain valuable skills for the working life.

EdTech in Southeast Asia is set to take quality and affordable education to those that cannot afford them. Particularly in these times where lockdowns are prevalent. EdTech can be used as a means to a hiccup-free education.
