New Forest Passes a Million Hits as Second Lockdown Approaches

The website is the most comprehensive guide to accommodation (many at the best rates available), activities, things to do and general information about the New Forest National Park.
Traffic from London increased by 101% with the most popular pages being Walking, Self-Catering accommodation, Things to do and Cycling. There was also a large increase in residents using the website.
Comments Anthony Climpson, CEO of Go New Forest: "Given the disastrous start for local tourism this year, record trading levels during a brilliant summer and early autumn have helped stabilise the local tourism industry.
"So, whilst a second lockdown is a major problem, from a tourism perspective if there was a 'best' time for a month-long closure it would be now, plus in a normal year it's also one of our quietest months.
"Remaining open during the last key trading period before Christmas has given our member businesses a 'nest egg' to help spread the burden of cost over lockdown.
"Without it many of them would be facing a difficult next few months. We are also grateful for continuing Government support via the refreshed furlough scheme."
Many of the New Forest's hotels have already got their Christmas programmes in place and are anxious that the lockdown is lifted on 2 December, as the Prime Minister has indicated, when the vital festive season approaches.
Michael Clitheroe, General Manager of Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst said: "We are hopeful this 2nd lockdown remains just a bump in the road to recovery rather than the start of a total disaster for the sector and region.
"This will only be the case if we can re-open our Covid-secure businesses as planned in early December; like many other hotels, the Christmas and New Year period is vital – probably more so this year than ever."
