Local Author Brings Mother's Memory to Life

WASHINGTON - Oct. 21, 2020 - PRLog -- Two years after her mother's sudden passing, Author Kinyatta E. Gray remembers and reflects on the life of (her mother) Beverly E. Carroll, through an evergreen tree-planting ceremony scheduled for 11am, today at THEARC (1901 Mississippi Avenue, Southeast). Prior to passing, Carroll held the title of Executive Assistant to the Executive Director and President of Building Bridges Across the River (BBAR) at THEARC.

Gray says, "My specific request was for them to consider planting a tree in my mother's honor in light of her tenure, commitment, love of THEARC and the contributions she made as an employee and trusted friend and beloved community member." She continues, "Planting a tree at THEARC is a great way to honor my mom because she loved being a part of THEARC, and symbolically, this tree will grow and live forever, and will provide shade from the sun, trees are healthy for the environment and from time to time over the years people can stop by as the tree grows and reflect on their memories of my mom."

As a five-time author (in one year), living right in our backyard (Silver Spring, MD), the evergreen tree is a symbolic opportunity to allow a local woman's memory and legacy live on. After all, Gray never envisioned being an author. When her mother passed, she began writing to fulfill her mother's dreams never fulfilled.

Today's event is the first for THEARC; and due to not only Gray's heartfelt request, but a demonstration of the company culture and values of THEARC organization. This grand gesture shows the impact Carroll made, and the lasting effects thereof.

Not only will this aide in Gray's healing process, but the tribute speaks loudly of how our area organization's support and honor our residents. Grays says, "My mother was not only an integral part of the staff when THEARC's doors first opened, she remained there for many years and built long lasting relationships with everyone from THEARC's board members to all of THEARC partners and the community served by THEARC. But, for her death, THEARC would have remained a very important part of her life, and for that reason, this tree is a symbol of love and remembrance of her life that was deeply rooted and planted where she loved to be, and that was at THEARC."
