World's first Digital Wellbeing Index launched on World Mental Health Day 2020 by eminent psychologist Dr Jawahar Surisetti

DELHI, India - Oct. 10, 2020 - PRLog -- On the occasion of the World Mental Health Day 2020 by the World Health Organisation, eminent psychologist Dr Jawahar Surisetti has come up with the world's first Digital Wellbeing Index (WDI) which measures the extent of digital wellbeing of a person . Digital addiction is one of the major components of mental health these days hence the significance of the Index .

During the COVID situation and the lockdowns thereafter forcing people to stay at home , the consumption patterns of internet data  , usage of mobile phones and social media , TV and OTT watching , usage of PCs , laptops and tablets as well as the gaming habits have largely changed . It is in this context that Dr Jawahar Surisetti has found that this index would be useful for people to realise the extent of their addiction to smartphones , social media , TV and OTT platforms , laptops and gaming consoles . There a comprehensive DIgital Wellbeing Index that gives a holistic view of the usage habits of digital devices of a person and also there are separate indices for all components like TV , mobile ,etc separately allowing for an in-depth analysis of where addiction is happening and corrective action in that area.

The online Digital Wellbeing Index exercise is a simple task of one minute and is available for free for everyone on the website https://www.digitalwellbeingindex.com so as to be able to gauge the extent of addiction. There will be suggestions on how to reduce addiction arising out of any digital device .

The research threw up some interesting data on the internet surfing habits in the precovid and covid period . The research also focused on the audience responses on their expected actions post covid in which the responses  clearly stated that the digital consumption would not return back to the normal of precovid period even if the situation returns back to normal . This shows that digital wellbeing is a desirable aspect of life especially for the mental health and this need has been aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing consequences. The first stage in digital wellbeing is the awareness of the addiction levels which are indicated by the Digital Wellbeing Index . This realisation is not easy because addiction acts at a subconscious level and the individual does not realise that he is a victim of digital addiction. When the mental as well as physical repercussions like depression , ulcers , lack of sleep start appearing that the realisation happens .
