. Most of these activities are below public radar due to lack of advertisements and promotions. One of these contributions in the education sector has been establishment of the Steven Malama award.
The Steven Malama award
was launched by Dr. Rajan Mahtani in collaboration with Finance Bank Zambia where he holds the position of Chairman. Dr. Mahtani knew late Steven Malama personally and was a good friend of him. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani is well aware of the several achievements of the distinct legal professional as well as his significant contributions towards improving the legal framework in Zambia. To honour all these contributions of late Steven Malama, this award was launched in the year 2012 and given for the first time in 2013.
Since 2013, the award is given every year to the top graduating candidate from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education. The top graduating student also has to qualify for the bar to be eligible for this award. The award for the year 2018-19 was received by Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba. The award carries a plaque, a certificate and prize money of K15,000. This prize money has been extremely helpful for deserving candidates with difficult financial backgrounds. Emmanuel also penned down an article thanking Dr. Rajan Mahtani
for his significant contributions which was later published at the Daily Mail.
