Columbus Ohio Meadery takes Best of Show in National Mead Competition

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Oct. 9, 2020 - PRLog -- Zen Bee Meadery of Columbus, Ohio has taken home the top prize in the National Honey Board's annual Mead Crafters Competition. The winning mead was inspired by Japanese plum wine and the judges said they were impressed with the mead's ability to balance both fruit flavors and still showcase the essence of the honey used in making the mead.

Mead which is essentially Honey Wine is a growing market."The mead category continues to gain popularity from beer, spirits and wine drinkers looking for something different, and we're proud to host this competition and recognize some of the best in the industry," Said Catherine Barry, National Honey Board's director of marketing. The competition featured over 300 entries from commercial meaderies in the United States.

Zen Bee Meadery, a small local family operation not only won best of show but was impressively awarded more medals than any other commercial meadery, winning two Gold medals, two silver medals and one Bronze for their entries in the following categories:

Session Semi-Sweet
Gold: Mara Ume
(and Gold Best of Show)

Session Sweet
Silver: Pear of Peaches
Bronze: Pink Zilla

Specialty Semi-Sweet
Silver: Sakura

"It's a bit surreal" Dan DeMura, owner and founder of Zen Bee Meadery, says."I've always said my philosophy in making mead is to simply make what I like to drink and hopefully other people will like it too. I guess we're doing something right."
