The competition featured over 300 entries from commercial meaderies in the United States. Zen Bee Meadery, a small local family operation not only won best of show but was impressively awarded more medals than any other commercial meadery, winning two Gold medals, two silver medals and one Bronze for their entries in the following categories: Session Semi-Sweet Gold: Mara Ume (and Gold Best of Show) Session Sweet Silver: Pear of Peaches Bronze: Pink Zilla Specialty Semi-Sweet Silver: Sakura "It's a bit surreal" Dan DeMura, owner and founder of Zen Bee Meadery, says."I've always said my philosophy in making mead is to simply make what I like to drink and hopefully other people will like it too.
