Local Community Health Center Announces New Chief Medical Officer

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Sept. 24, 2020 - PRLog -- Silver Spring, MD- CCI Health & Wellness Services, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving Montgomery and Prince George's County Maryland, this week announced the appointment of their new Chief Medical Officer, Melissa Clark, MD. As the new CMO, Clark will oversee the very vital work of 60 health care staff providing care to more than 33,000 patients.

Dr. Clark is no stranger to the community health center movement. Although she began her career in a small private practice, she found purpose in improving the health and well-being of those communities made vulnerable by social, economic, and cultural barriers and became part of CCI in 2010. Dr. Clark's knowledge of public health, racial health disparities, and community health has only continued to expand with her role at CCI. "I came to understand that every patient has barriers to care and part of our collective team job is to help as much as we can in removing those barriers," says Clark.

Helping patients, families, and communities be healthier is why Clark went into medicine in the first place. Working at CCI Health & Wellness Services allows her to do that in a profound and very authentic way.

The new CMO is board certified in family medicine and enjoys connecting with patients through her work at multiple CCI locations. In this new role, Dr. Clark plans to help the organization continue to provide great care to the outside community while also fostering a sense of community among staff at CCI.

Dr. Clark is an Alumna of Wittenberg University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Sociology. She received her medical degree at Wright State University's Boonshoft School of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency at the University of Illinois, Chicago—Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
