Haunting Prophetic Image from 1700s About Forest Fires

SEATTLE - Sept. 13, 2020 - PRLog -- A Shoreline, Washington eBay seller found a pair of 18th Century French tiles that depict a symbolic couple which in light of the horrible recent forest fires, give a prophetic yet haunting hope. He wants to call the public's attention to these images because they capture something in art better than anyone can put it into words.

The man on the tile is offering a cup of water to what seems like the Earth. He is bending his knee as if to offer the water to the ground. This the seller thought was symbolic of a forest fire fighter. The woman has three eggs which she holds in her hands, also outstretched in an offering gesture. She is, in a way, offering her children to a high purpose, even the possible sacrificing of their lives to protect the Earth from the carelessness of others.

It's a very poignant depiction of man and woman giving of themselves. They reminded the seller of the Biblical verse that people are supposed to be good stewards of the Earth. Perhaps the artist did this depicting what Jesus said, "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward."  This makes the image all the more haunting.
