Follow on Google News | Brisbane trio TYDE reveal visceral debut single and music video 'Skin On Skin'Indie band TYDE revealed their debut single 'Skin On Skin' on October 1st 2020, met with rave reviews.
By: Ella Belfanti "'Skin on Skin' is a masterclass in contemporary alt-folk" - Blank GC "Skin On Skin, is easily one of the strongest debuts that this year has seen." - Happy Mag The newly-formed trio is made up of Cole Clark Guitars-endorsed guitarist and singer Ella Belfanti, her 15-year-old sister and bass prodigy Zoe Belfanti, and young-but-seasoned drummer Josh Garnett. With influences including Matt Corby, Florence + The Machine and John Butler Trio, TYDE brandishes a rich soundscape that ebbs and flows between alt-rock, folk, and funk. Their first musical offering showcases introspective storytelling and considered musical arrangement at its finest. Conceptualised by Ella while she was working as a ski instructor in 2019, TYDE worked on the song online between the VIC Alps and Brisbane. They finished the arrangement together in person over the following summer. 'Skin On Skin' reflects on an experience of no-strings-attached intimacy, and the emotional repercussions. Ella gives some insight into their new song: "After a few drinks on a big night out, I sought out connection in a way that usually wouldn't be my style. 'Skin On Skin' is about how it didn't make me feel the way I wanted it to." 'Skin On Skin' was recorded on the Gold Coast at Studio Circuit with Melbourne producer George Carpenter, who then mixed it at The Aviary in Melbourne. It was mastered in LA by Brian Lucey, who has worked with artists including The Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Green Day, and Chet Faker. The music video was filmed and edited by Brisbane duo Dan Vilimaa and Oliver Marshall. The video features Brisbane's West End and a rustic cottage in Tamborine. TYDE explains: "The concept was to create this surreal space between the reality of going home the morning after a one night stand, and the emotional rollercoaster that can happen in your head. We wanted to capture the process of reflecting on the experience - specifically in this story, on feeling detached and feeling strange in your own skin." TYDE played two successful launch shows in QLD; at Brisbane's Can You Keep A Secret? on Oct 1st, and at the Gold Coast's Burleigh Bazaar on Oct 3rd.
