HAWTHORNE, Calif. - Sept. 6, 2020 - PRLog -- Current city treasurer and candidate for council L. David Patterson never shies away from a tough challenge.

The local businessman worked his way to becoming a successful investment advisor, business consultant, commercial real estate broker, and serial entrepreneur over his 20-year career.

The driven lifelong learner earned his bachelor's in business administration from the University of Southern California and master's in industrial and organizational psychology from Capella University and is now a doctoral candidate in business psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

As an elected official serving the city of Hawthorne, he was the first African American to hold the office of treasurer. During his first term starting in 2013, he worked collaboratively with his colleagues to save the city thousands in banking fees, increase the city's cash on hand by 600 percent, and increase return on investments by more than 400 percent. He was re-elected to another four year term as treasurer in 2018 after winning 70 percent of the vote.

Now, halfway through his second term as city treasurer, Patterson is facing yet another challenge: running for city council.

Patterson is undaunted. The Hawthorne native loves his community, which he has proudly served for more than two decades. In addition to being actively involved with the city, he has donated his time to various community organizations, including the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, the Hawthorne Economic Development Council, and Hawthorne Teen Center.

"As a teenager going to the Hawthorne mall, I never thought I would grow up to be elected Hawthorne's first African American city treasurer," he said. "I believe my financial and business expertise has me uniquely qualified to help our city take advantage of all the economic activity happening in the region."

As councilman, he plans to bring his financial expertise to the office to keep Hawthorne's finances safe, provide transparency, and make sure the city is well run. His priorities will include economic development, bringing new businesses to Hawthorne, and making Hawthorne business friendly.

Patterson will face off November 3 against four other candidates running for two open council seats.
