- Sept. 5, 2020
-- September 5th is designated as the International Day of Charity by the United Nations. The purpose of the International Day of Charity is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for charity related activities all over the world for individuals, charitable, philanthropic and volunteer organizations.
International Day of Charity is meant to enhance visibility, organize special events, and in this way to increase solidarity, social responsibility and public support for charities worldwide. September 5th was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace".
Building Dreams Foundation (BDF) asks for your support to help our cause. We care for impoverished children and their families, providing food, education and empowerment with a focus on environmental sustainability. Our organization is run by volunteers who receive no salary and donate their own time and money to support a worthy cause. We encourage you to help us fight hunger and poverty on this momentous occasion. We recently won the prestigious Diana Award for our organization's efforts.
A recent study published in Psychology Today suggests that helping others is good for your health and well being (psychologytoday.com/
health). In fact, providing aid to others can even help you live longer. Their study also found that "providing support for others also tends to make the helper happier".
