Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani's Significant Contribution Helps In Launching Steven Malama Award

LUSAKA, Zambia - Sept. 4, 2020 - PRLog -- The Steven Malama Award is a notable educational award in Zambia. The award was instituted in the year 2012 by Dr. Rajan Mahtani, one of the most respected businessman in Zambia. The award was instituted in association with Finance Bank Zambia with Dr. Rajan Mahtani as the chairman. The motive behind establishing this post was to honour late Steven Malama, one of the most notable and visionary law professional from Zambia. Steven Malama's contribution to legal framework of Zambia is significant, most notable being merger of the solicitor and registrar bar into a single bar. This feat was achieved after numerous persuasion of the Zambian government. This merger has been extremely significant as this new bar will help legal professionals in getting affiliation in a much easier manner.

The Steven Malama award is given to the top graduating law student from Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education every year. The student also qualifies for the bar in their first attempt to be eligible for this award. Apart from the significant recognition, the award carries some tangible benefits such as a plaque, certificate and prize money worth K15,000. This prize money is of significant financial support to the students and has been instrumental in not only providing opportunities for higher education, advanced training or certification, but has also improved the overall motivation and morale of the students studying from ZIALE.

The winner of the 2018-19 Steven Malama award was Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba. Emmanuel also wrote an article thanking Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani for his significant financial contribution and motivation by instituting the award. The article was later published at the 'readers forum' from Daily Mail newspaper.
