Decks cleared for East Bengal as ISL floats bid for new team

Indian Super League (ISL) organisers have floated a tender on Friday inviting bids to add one team into its roster, paving the way for East Bengal club's direct entry into the top-tier of Indian football.

KOLKATA, India - Sept. 4, 2020 - PRLog -- The tournament, conceptualised and organised by Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL) under the aegis of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), floated a notice of invitation to bid for new teams ahead of the 2020-21 season.

"Invited bids from interested parties for the award of one additional team to enroll and participate in the Hero Indian Super League, from its seventh edition to be staged in 2020-21," it was written on the tender.

Bids from six cities of Delhi, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Silliguri, and Bhopal are invited.

The tournament had a 'One City, One Team' rule in its first five years and it would be interesting to see if the organisers break away from their self imposed rule to accommodate East Bengal.

The bid will be open on September 7 and September 8. An online bid could be submitted by September 14 followed by a hard copy submission by September 17.

East Bengal announced the Kolkata-headquartered Shree Cements Limited as its investor on Wednesday, a deal facilitated by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
