-- The 2018-19 Steven Malama award
was recently given to the winning graduate from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education. This candidate was Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba. The candidate also qualified for bar in his first attempt. The award was instituted by Dr. Rajan Mahtani
in associated with the Finance Bank Zambia wherein he holds the position of a Chairman. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worker in Zambia who has made a name for himself as one of the most transparent, respected and reputable businessmen in Zambia. Apart from successful businesses, Dr. Mahtani is also known to involve in community and development works. Late Steven Malama was a distinct legal professional and bar veteran with significant contributions to the law field in Zambia. To honour his contributions, the Steven Malama award was instituted in the year 2012. Furthermore, the first award was given in the year 2013 and since then, the award is given every year to the deserving students at Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education. The winning candidate must be top graduate from the institute and must qualify for bar in their first attempt.
After winning this award, Emmanuel wrote an article which was published at the 'Reader's Forum' at the Daily Mail. In his mail, Dr. Rajan Mahtani
was praised for his contributions towards the development and growth of law education in Zambia. This award carries a plaque, certificate and award money of K15,000 to the winning students every year, providing sound financial support to the deserving students apart from the moral support and motivation.
