Enfield Police Endorse Turner for State House

Connecticut Democrats Overplay Their Anti-Police Rhetoric and Recently Passed Legislation

ENFIELD, Conn. - Sept. 1, 2020 - PRLog -- ENFIELD - Republican Mary Ann Turner has received the backing of the Enfield Police Employees Association (EPEA) for the 58th State House seat, the first time this organization has made an endorsement for public office.

"Enfield and all our towns must be safe in our homes, our schools and on the streets and it starts with the police," said Turner. "I am honored by this endorsement and pledge to support laws that protect our communities and our men and women in blue."

In a press release, EPEA President Eric Horan said Turner "truly cares about the safety of Enfield and the safety of police officers entrusted with protecting it."  Horan cited the recently passed Police Accountability Act, supported by incumbent Tom Arnone. The Police Accountability Act would "put an undue burden on the backs of the taxpayers and Turner fully understands how this legislation negatively impacts our ability to effectively and safely do our job and provide the level of service residents of Enfield deserve."

Turner said she would support repealing the bill as State Representative since it unfairly lifts certain legal protections police officers have against lawsuits. This law, she said, will have a chilling effect on proper law enforcement, force the early retirements of exceptional officers and cause doubt among rank and file personnel to perform their duties.

"State Representative Tom Arnone made us less safe by supporting lawsuits over lives," Turner said. "Arnone is simply out of touch with the voters and prefers to politicize public safety instead of seriously addressing concerns."

Turner said her first piece of legislation will be to repeal this bill while working for a balanced approach to improve police training and providing the funding to do so.

"The officers of the Enfield Police Department get up every day willing to put their lives on the line for us," said Turner. "We don't turn our backs on our police officers and allow them to be unfairly targeted. We need to support our police officers with training and we need to provide the services they need to do their jobs."
