AdvisorSmith Finds the Safest Cities in Michigan
The safest midsize cities were located in the suburbs of Detroit
AdvisorSmith examined the crime rates in 419 cities and towns in Michigan using the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Data Set. Each city was given a crime score that weighed the severity of crimes including rape, robbery, muder, assult, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft.
The cities were also compared and segmented by population size to find the safest small, midsize, and large cities in the state. Cities with population sizes with up to 10,000 residents were compared and labeled towns. Midsize cities with 10,000 to 100,000 residents and large cities with over 100,000 residents were also compared.
"We created this study so that residents, potential residents, and small business owners can be informed about the safest places to live and do business in the state of Michigan," said Adrian Mak, CEO, AdvisorSmith.
The study determined that the safest small, midsize, and large cities in Michigan were Ishpeming, Oakland, and Sterling Heights.
