LAFAYETTE, La. - Aug. 28, 2020 - PRLog -- Acadiana area students were also eligible to win $500 payable to the college they attend in a drawing designed for first time voters. The Scholarship has been in existence for 25 years and is sponsored by the Lafayette, Louisiana based law firm of Simien & Miniex, A Professional Law Corporation. Each year, the Miniex and Simien families award scholarships to deserving high school graduates who strive to do well in furthering their education. The Virginia Miniex and Margo St. Julian Simien Scholarship was established to honor the beliefs of Mrs. Virginia Miniex and Mrs. Margo St. Julian Simien that obtaining a good education is pivotal in a young person's life and that it creates a solid foundation to prepare them for the future. The scholarship targets high school graduates to mentor and help financially.

This year's winner is Ms. Bailey Auzenne who will be attending Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana where she plans to major in Psychology. She recently graduated from Lafayette High School where she had a 3.95 GPA and an ACT Composite Score of 21. She is a member of the Lafayette High School Marching and Concert Band, a member of the National Beta Club and National Honor Society. We wish her well and plan to monitor her progress as she pursue her goals of going to graduate school and becoming a psychologist.

This year, in addition to the scholarship award, senior applicants who registered to vote and were entering college were able to enter the Voter Registration Drawing to win $500.00 to be used to defray college expenses. The winner of this year's drawing is Ms. Dylan Delasbour, who will be attending Xavier University where she plans to major in Biochemistry.

The Legacy award is given to a relative of either Ms. Miniex or Ms. Simien, who during their lives were very vocal on having their descendants educate themselves. This year, Rylie Miniex, the granddaughter of Virginia Miniex, received the award. She is a graduate of ESA High School with a 3.8 GPA and a 26 on the ACT. She will attend Loyola University in New Orleans and is majoring in Commercial and Popular Music.

The Virginia Miniex and Margo St. Julian Simien Scholarship has continued to be a large part of both families giving back to the community. We look forward to continuing to impact the lives of young people in our community in a positive manner.
