The American Rosie Movement 2020

Ring a Bell for Rosies Now to Up to a Unified Ringing at 1 P.M., Sept. 7 (Labor Day in USA)
CROSS LANES, W.Va. - Aug. 30, 2020 - PRLog -- Many people will ring bells across America and other nations starting now and building to 1:00 p.m., Sept. 7. The bells announce that people are ready to pull together. Rosie the Riveters ("Rosies") are the focus. Their legacy, "To pull together to do highest quality work to protect freedom" is seen as needed today.

Under the direction of Thanks! Plain and Simple, Inc. ("Thanks!"), people with and without an internet connection will photograph themselves as they ring a bell to recognize Rosies' impact on the past, present and future. As the world asks, "How can we unify to face new problems?", people across America and many countries will ring bells of all sizes, from hand bells to carillons.  On Sept. 7, a wave of bells will ring from across many time zones from across America, Europe, to New Zealand and Australia.

Ruth Edwards, a 97-year-old Rosie in Greensboro, NC who worked for Carnegie Illinois Steel, says, "We Rosies pulled together during the war.  Our job was to save lives and hold onto freedom for America and other countries. Today, the world needs to pull together, again, by doing quality work that is meaningful o us all.  After 12 years of helping "Thanks!" in their sincere, impressive effort to really understand Rosies and what we represent, I ask people everywhere to ring a bell for Rosies as a wake-up call for unity."

Anne Montague, Founding Director of "Thanks!" says, "Soon after I interviewed a Rosies in 2008, I realized that their real legacy is pulling together to do quality work for a higher cause. So, in addition to recording Rosies' fascinating stories, we work with partners, communities, and Allied Nations to give people ways to work with Rosies. Today, we have worked with more than 100 Rosies and countless helpers to create 18 projects that people can replicate or improve on almost anywhere. Designing Rosie parks, making masks, creating Rosie music, naming buildings and bridges are a few things people can unify to do.

"In short, The American Rosie Movement guides people to pull together to do work that both tells the stories of Rosies and advances their legacy. Today, people need to show that we can–and will-pull together to do quality work for freedom, and this will always be needed."

Some partners in the "Ring a Bell for Rosies" event are: The Chapel of the Four Chaplains, Philadelphia; The WV Department of Education; The Embassy of the Netherlands, Washington; and Monroe Publications, FL.
