Cohoon's Do No Harm is the 2020 American Fiction Awards Winner in the Thriller-Medical Category

LOS ANGELES - Aug. 27, 2020 - PRLog -- The American Fiction Awards (AFA) cover books from all sections of the publishing industry—mainstream, independent, and self-published. Winners and finalists were announced in 70 genre specific categories. Awards were presented for titles published in 2018-2020. This competition's judges highlight and award entered titles based on design, content, and overall appeal.

James B. Cohoon's Do No Harm creates a gripping story about a doctor's struggle to seek justice or healing. When Matthew Preston was eight, his father was shot and killed in Rarefield Pacific Palisades by Ted Nash, a home burglar who happened to be the Prestons' neighbor. Nash was sentenced to life in San Quentin, and Matthew's lifelong obsession is to infiltrate the prison, gain access to Nash, and exact the ultimate personal revenge. He devises a plan to become a prison doctor to reach his greatest enemy. While in medical school, Matthew falls for brilliant classmate Torrey Jamison from poverty-stricken East Palo Alto. Torrey is battling her own demons, having faced sexual abuse by a school counselor while in high school. Matthew is focused on vigilantism; but he loves Torrey who is morally opposed to killing for any reason—or so she thinks.

Furthermore, in the August issue of The Big Thrill, where Do No Harm was featured, James B. Cohoon was asked what he hopes readers will take away from his book. He responded by saying, "[o]ften criminals are glorified while victims of violent crime are ignored. In this fictionalized story, the childhood victims grow up to be doctors. But they are still human, with the urge for revenge. And who knows to what lengths they will go to achieve it. Morality is not black and white, or even gray."
