How to recycle your electronic waste?

NEW DELHI - Aug. 24, 2020 - PRLog -- Electronic devices have invaded our interiors: but when they reach the end of their life, how to properly recycle electronic waste?

The electronic waste recycling channel

The recycling of electronic waste in India is provided by Eco-Systems: it is an organization financed by the "eco-contribution" that we pay for each purchase of a new object. Eco-Systems takes care of your old electronic devices, dismantles them and recovers (or eliminates) each component. Thus, rare earths are particularly valuable, in a telephone in particular. Did you know that a phone contains 300 mg of silver and 30 mg of gold?

Eco-Systems estimates that 58 kg of electronic waste per person sleeps in Indian cellars or drawers: literally, a "gold mine" to be recycled rather than letting them collect dust.

All electronic devices are taken care of by this organization: telephone, computer, electric toys, small (toaster, coffee maker) and large household appliances, television, tools… Batteries and lamps have their own recycling circuit, however.

Drop off electronic waste at a collection point

The first step is to drop off your device at an approved collection point. On the Eco-Systems site, you can find all the drop-off points in your city. Many stores and supermarkets offer an electronic waste collection point. If the device is too big, it is taken to a recycling center.

Many operators also take back your old household appliance if they deliver a new one: they have a legal obligation to do so.

There are also specific collection systems for electronic devices: in some towns, hotlines are held by agents to allow residents to bring in their old devices. Find out more at the town hall or on your town's website to find out the days and hours of service.

Electronic waste is then collected, sorted and the components separated by material: plastic, metals, etc. Recyclable components will experience a second life through recycling. The eco-organization estimates that 69 million electronic wastes was thus collected in India in 2017. Recycling also has a social value, since it allows the creation of 7,000 jobs, including 1,800 jobs in integration.

If the support by E-Waste Management Authorization (https://www.corpseed.com/service/e-waste-management-autho...) guarantees that no waste will end up in nature, there are however components or materials that we do not know how to recycle. This is particularly the case of certain metal alloys which will be stored for years while waiting for a solution...

In addition, some electronic devices recently launched, such as tablets, were designed without imagining a downstream recycling solution. This is why, before thinking about recycling, it is necessary to avoid the production of waste and the over-consumption of electronic devices!
