Covid-19 Accelerates New Ways of Working for Construction Projects
An industry in dire need of change is adopting new ideas to improve itself in the post-Covid-19 world.
The Trouble with Hiring Construction Professionals
Founder Robert Barratt is a Chartered Surveyor with almost two decades' worth of experience in the construction industry and has long been troubled that access to the best talent in the industry was much easier for employers in attractive locations or for those with deeper pockets.
His solution was to create Quantitiv, a marketplace bringing opportunities to top-tier professionals in around the world while allowing their skills to be easily accessed by developers and contractors in other parts of the world. Mr Barratt believes that, by outsourcing elements of work or working with consultants instead of hiring, developers and contractors can save thousands of pounds per project. "Few employers are aware of the true cost of hiring and, in many cases, it's only possible to pick from a limited talent pool - unless you have massive funds. Add to that the time and multi-departmental effort that hiring requires, it often makes no business sense for project-led business models."
An Opportune Time for Change
Robert says he'd been considering the idea of creating a platform like Quantitiv for a long time, and the early feedback has been excellent.
"There's no doubt that everyone in the industry has struggled with the fall-out from Covid-19. But the one positive we've seen is that it's given business leaders a chance to step back and look at whether having people on-site to complete commercial and planning tasks is necessary - or even possible - anymore."
Quantitiv's platform allows users to source and connect to professionals around the world, providing the opportunity to outsource specific tasks or have an industry expert work alongside the site team remotely. There's also the option of outsourcing to professionals in different time zones so work can continue uninterrupted when on-site staff are finished for the day.
