Amidst Industry Lockdown "Meeting Kate" Rolls On

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Aug. 19, 2020 - PRLog -- "We've been sitting on our hands since March with three different scripts we're ready to pipeline. We needed to get something going."

That was the statement from Kelly's Filmworks producer and co-founder, Kelly Worthington.

"So just like any other undesirable situation in this business, you either wait it out or find another way. We chose to find another way."

The 'we' she was referring to was herself and her director/co-founder/husband, Jefferson Moore, who came up with the idea to launch a new movie project without the conventional cast and crew size, location choices and travel implications that have been made more complicated by state and national regulations put in place to restrict the spread of the corona virus.

"Meeting Kate" marks Kelly's Filmworks' return to narrative storytelling after a brief interlude producing their first documentary (2019's "National Anthem Girl").

"Solving problems is a part of the job (as executive producer), but the current world climate really called for us to step up our game", said Moore.

Simple procedures like hiring a small crew where members perform multiple tasks, and finding one location that presents several different looks are just a few of the methods being employed to bring "Meeting Kate" to fruition. New computer-generated technology has also assisted the process with creating images otherwise restricted in person. A script that called for few characters and/or characters that interact via remote means, like telephones, was tricky, but not impossible to maneuver, said Moore, who also penned the screenplay.

"Meeting Kate" is a prequel film to Kelly's Filmworks 2015 release, "Reading Kate". The new movie takes place some 30 years earlier. It is the twelfth movie project for the independent studio, which started in 2004 with "La Sposa" and quickly found global recognition with the 2006 underground hit, "The Perfect Stranger".

"At the end of the day," says Worthington, "we're in the business of telling stories. Sometimes the real story is how you do business in difficult times."

"Meeting Kate' is expected to release sometime in late 2021.
