Mom Creates Free Social Network to Help Parents Home School
With many children starting the school year with virtual learning or home schooling for the first time, parents can make connections and find resources on homeschoolroomies.com.
That's when Randi Zucker decided to create a website to help families navigate this new world, and launched HomeschoolRoomies.com. Homeschool Roomies is a free social network for parents thrust into home school or virtual public school. Those who join can connect with other parents, and search for members who live in their city, have kids in the same grade level, and follow similar home schooling methods. You can make connections, send direct messages, form groups and search for resources.
"What makes Homeschool Roomies unique is that it's a social network like Facebook or NextDoor App but specific to your homeschooling needs," said Zucker, a working mom of two children. "We have members all over the country who have formed groups for their learning pods, host virtual events, and used the platform to find private in-home tutors for their children."
Before the Pandemic, approximately 3.4 percent of US parents home schooled their children. Polls are predicting many families will not be sending their kids back to school this 2020/2021 school year when they do re-open their doors.
"The country is going through a huge disruption in our education system and family dynamics to support home schooling, and we hope Homeschool Roomies gives families added support through our community," Zucker said.
