Best, MBA recently reached a personal and professional milestone by studying for and passing the intensive three-part Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Enrolled Agent (EA) exam, which covers all aspects of federal taxation during this unprecedented COVID-19 event. Enrolled Agents are federally empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and are recognized across all 50 U.S. states.

As the highest credential the IRS awards, Enrolled Agents, in addition to the stringent testing and application process, the IRS requires EAs to complete 72 hours of continuing education, reporting every three years. Because of these requirements, there are only about 53,000 practicing Enrolled Agents in the whole country.

Only Enrolled Agents are required to demonstrate to the IRS their competence in all areas of taxation, representation and ethics before they are given representation rights before the IRS. Unlike attorneys and CPAs, who are state licensed and who may or may not choose to specialize in taxes, all Enrolled Agents specialize in taxation.
