Project Diversify Medicine is Leading the Way with Pre Med Advice for Future Black & Brown Doctors

ST. LOUIS - Aug. 6, 2020 - PRLog -- We are truly on the heals of serious change in the world and also within the medical industry as well. Each year, more Black & Brown Doctors graduate, but there is still a need to insert this conversation into mainstream media because representation does matter. Introducing, Project Diversify Medicine (PDM). This is an organization that was created by Dr. Ashley Denmark five years ago and more than ever she is grateful she made the decision to create this platform because the future needs the information this organization creates and shares daily. As Dr. Denmark is no stranger to breaking barriers as she went from dishwasher to Doctor, to becoming the first African American women to graduate from The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in South Carolina, she knew creating PDM would be a way to serve her community. What she wasn't able to have during her experience of wanting to become a Doctor, she wanted to create for the future.

When asked about the why of creating PDM, Dr. Denmark states, "The purpose of why I created PDM was to provide visibility for more Black and Brown doctors (and future) to see themselves in white coats and create a pathway for them to obtain a career in medicine and showcase that it is obtainable. In addition, to provide resources through financial and education so we will be able to bridge the diversity gap in medicine and create a new generation of future Black & Brown Doctors who will be able to serve their communities."

Since COVID-19 made it debuts and started to shut down the country, PDM has remained at the forefront with educating and inspiring future Black & Brown Doctors- reminding them that they are needed. In the span of four months, Dr. Denmark has hosted 14+ Doctor Power Hours with 30,000+ views, paid for 52+ medical school applications, and has hosted over 10 masterclasses, with over 400+ students attending. They have no plans letting up either as they are on a mission to encourage millions of Black & Brown individuals to apply for Medical school and to view this option as a way to assist with the healing our their communities.

About Dr. Ashley Denmark: Dr. Ashley Denmark who is a powerhouse African American physician hailing from St. Louis, MO. In 2015, she became one of the first African American females to graduate from The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in South Carolina. In 2018, Dr. Denmark returned to her hometown of St. Louis and joined the BJC Medical Group where she became the first African American Female Family Medicine Physician at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, since it's opening in 1884. From hospital dishwasher to breaking barriers in family medicine, this is quite the full circle moment for Dr. Ashley Denmark.
