BOCA RATON, Fla. - Aug. 6, 2020 - PRLog -- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families and caregivers to be able to compare Medicare Advantage Health Plans and Nursing Homes. The Star rating system was designed to assist consumers to easily identify areas of concerns.

A Medicare Advantage health care plan can get a rating between 1 and 5 stars. A 5-star rating is considered excellent. Ratings help individuals compare plans based on quality and a provider's performance. Medicare updates these ratings each fall for the following year. That allows a subscriber that desires a Five (5) Star rated Plan almost 10 months to change their Medicare Advantage Plan without incurring a penalty.

A Five Star Plan is great for subscribers who remain in the same location that their plan covers. If a subscriber moves from a Five (5) Star Medicare Advantage Plan that has drug coverage they may lose their prescription drug coverage. They may have to wait until their next enrollment opportunity to get drug coverage (Part D) and may be subject to paying a late enrollment penalty.
