LONDON - July 28, 2020 - PRLog -- Independent Boat Insurance specialists IRCM are supporting British Marine's #summeronthewater campaign with a timely boost for first-time buyers of yachts and pleasurecraft.

British Marine (BM), the membership organisation for the leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry, launched the campaign this month to support the Sector following the Covid-19 lockdown which crippled much of the industry during the first half of the leisure boating season.

As restrictions lift and the population looks to escape its enforced confinement, #summeronthewater highlights the benefits of post-lockdown recreation provided by members of BM – a range of activities including holiday-boat hire, boat ownership and water sports.

The campaign overview references a recent lastminute.com survey which found a 45% week-on-week bookings for UK holidays and that 33% of the British population intended to stay in the UK for their 2020 summer breaks.  BM emphasises the fantastic benefits to physical and mental wellbeing that people can derive from waterborne activities; as well as offering environments that can help maintain safe-social distancing

Mark Elcocks, IRCM's Specialist Risks Executive and Chair of BM's Midlands Association said "The Marine Leisure Sector was severely affected by being unable to operate for the whole of the first half of what is already a short season; but we are now seeing a strong bounce-back for the second half of the season with BM members reporting record sales across segments ranging from stand-up paddleboards and kayaks, to larger recreational craft; as well as unprecedented levels of holiday-boat bookings."

IRCM are offering first-time buyers of boats and yachts a special introductory 2-year no-claims bonus to help mitigate one of the additional costs of boat ownership.  "There's real evidence that boat insurance premiums are continuing to increase" said Mark "A 2-year introductory no-claims bonus to first-time buyers equates to a 10% premium saving".
