By: 50/50 Leadership The Summer Youth Internship Program was hosted from June 6th to July 31st where participants were required to collect over 60 hours of service. Students attended weekly meetings via Zoom where they interacted with a diverse group of volunteers and members of the board. The immersive summer program consisted of nine high school students who came from Azusa High School, Duarte High School, Stanford Online High School, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, CSArts-San Gabriel Valley, Godalming College of Surrey, and Gladstone High School, which has an affiliation with 50/50 Leadership. All interns were allowed to choose to work in different areas of interest such as videography or marketing. The internship program provided the students with eight mentors who had multiple areas of expertise to guide the interns towards completing their assigned tasks through daily phone calls. "I have learned a lot about working in an organization and developed journalism skills through this internship program," said Gabriel DuBransky, journalist intern from CSArts-San Gabriel Valley. "My mentor especially helped me develop my communication skills and kept me and others accountable for our work." Each intern had a range of assignments within the eight weeks of the program, "while contributing to the mission of promoting equality for women in leadership roles" said Program Coordinator and Chair, Lisa Haukom. To encourage virtual engagement, the organization used Flipgrid "to promote interaction between interns and to explore topics such as the 19th amendment, diversity of leadership and gender inequality."
