DURHAM, N.C. - July 16, 2020 - PRLog -- Del Webb, the nation's leading builder of active adult communities for those 55 and older, is pleased to announce that community involvement amongst residents of Carolina Arbors has been consistently strong since the community's inception and continues to grow as increasingly more homeowners participate in activities to enhance the greater Durham community.

"The residents of Carolina Arbors are special folks, and it has been inspiring to see their generosity and passion for service to the greater community," said David Carrier, president of PulteGroup's Raleigh division. "They have impacted the lives of many families throughout southeast Durham as a result of their involvement in community projects, serving as terrific role models with a truly admirable sense of purpose."

Located in Durham off Leesville Road, in close proximity to the intersection of Highway 70 and I-540, PulteGroup's Del Webb began construction on Carolina Arbors' 1,292 homes in 2013. Sales at the community were complete in early 2020, with homeowners consisting of active adults aged 55 and older.

A Community Awareness Club was formed in the early days of the neighborhood's development, with endeavors undertaken by residents to boost the quality of life for the greater Durham community. Most notable among these efforts was homeowner participation in influencing the Durham County Board of Commissioners and City Council to combine community resources under one roof with the construction of EMS/Fire Station #17. In addition to coordinating  homeowner meetings with Durham officials, nearly 2,500 letters lobbying for the facility were written, signed by more than 400 Carolina Arbors' residents in the spring of 2016, outlining the need for an emergency services facility to benefit the needs of southeast Durham citizens. PulteGroup donated four acres of land, and construction became a reality in 2017. These efforts saved Durham County over $400,000 in costs, and provided a much needed service facility to the area.

Residents of Carolina Arbors have also formed a Community Outreach Club, with numerous activities benefitting the Durham community. A few of these undertakings include food drives benefitting the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's Backpack Buddies program; holiday toy/toiletry/underwear drives benefitting Durham Urban Ministries; "Fill That Bus!" Crayons2Calculators school supply collections; Welcome Baby donations and service time via Durham County Extension Service.

"Carolina Arbors is a neighborhood of energetic, civic-minded individuals who are willing to give back to the community," says Loretta Woodall, a Carolina Arbors' resident who was actively involved in the EMS/Fire Station initiative. "We live in a fertile area of individuals who are willing to donate their time and resources for the greater good. I'm happy to be a part of it."
