Local League of Women Voters & ACLU to Host Online Candidate Forum for Palm Beach County Sheriff

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - June 29, 2020 - PRLog -- (West Palm Beach, FL – June 29, 2020) The League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County (LWVPBC) and the ACLU of Palm Beach County (ACLUPBC) today announced they are hosting a candidate forum for the office of Palm Beach County Sheriff. The online forum will be held on Monday, July 27, at 7 pm, and will be carried live on the League's Facebook page at https://facebook.com/LWVPBC.

"We will depart somewhat from our normal forum protocol to allow the candidates extended time to outline any plans they have for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in response to widespread national calls for reform," said Ken Thomas, president of LWVPBC.

"While one candidate will not be opposed in the primary election, we have invited all three candidates to participate in advance of the primary election on August 18. Remember, early voting begins August 3. This will allow the audience the best basis for comparison of the candidates," added Mark Schneider, president of ACLUPBC.

The candidates for Palm Beach County Sheriff invited to participate include in alphabetical order:

+  Ric Bradshaw: Palm Beach County Sheriff since 2005, Bradshaw has a Master's degree in Administration with specialization in emergency management. He previously served as police chief of West Palm Beach.

+ Lauro Diaz: A Captain with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Diaz has a Master's degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management and has spent 34 years in law enforcement.

+ Alex Freeman: He retired last year as a Major in the Riviera Beach Police Department. Freeman has a Bachelor's degree in public administration and certification in Command Officer Development.

While forum organizers will pre-select the candidate topics, interested voters and residents are invited to submit questions for consideration at pbc.aclu@gmail.com.
