Non-profit Brings New First Take to Florida's Film and TV IndustryMaking a hard push for the return of this important industry to the Sunshine State
By: Feature Florida Partnerships Feature Films Partnerships enters the market with a new take on film & TV funding—private equity managed by the non-profit FFP. This effort establishes regional financing funds for independent film and episodic television in the $2-$12 million range. These funds will stimulate consolidation of Florida crew, cast, and support businesses, creating an innovative financing resource for aspiring Florida filmmakers transitioning to more significant budgets while also re-positioning Florida as a key player in the domestic marketplace for film and television production. FFP executive director and chair of industry association COMPASS Chris Ranung stated that "the Partnership is committed to bringing key business, state, and community leaders together with industry professionals to reinvigorate this historically important contributor to Florida's economic prosperity." "Florida's pool of creative talent and energy is second to none," added FFP advisor Elayne Schmidt, owner of Florida-based Southern Legacy Productions. "It has been stifled by a lack of financing and development options. Feature Florida Partnerships was created to re-set this equation." Feature Florida Partnerships advocates for independent Florida feature film and episodic television production.
