New six-cylinder engines for the BMW 7 Series

LONDON - June 20, 2020 - PRLog -- The diesel engines of the current BMW generation are offered in two levels of performance. The engine used in the BMW 730d, BMW 730d xDrive, BMW 730Ld, BMW 730Ld xDrive impresses with its increased power by 15 kW / 21 hp, at 210 kW / 286 hp, while the maximum torque was increased by 30 Nm, at 650 Nm, which is available between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

By increasing power, luxury sedans benefit from better acceleration. For example, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h of the BMW 730d and BMW 730d xDrive has now been improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.9 and respectively 5.6 seconds. This increase is accompanied by a reduction in consumption of up to 0.6 l / 100 km.

The new generation of the engine under the hood of the BMW 740d xDrive and BMW 740Ld xDrive models offers improved performance, but also better levels of fuel consumption and emissions. The maximum power level of the new in-line six-cylinder diesel engine was increased by 15 kW / 20 hp to 250 kW / 340 hp. The maximum torque has been extended by 20 Nm, to 700 Nm, and will be available in a speed range between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The result is higher traction, which leads to a distinctive increase in performance. The BMW 740d xDrive now sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.0 seconds, an improvement of 0.2 seconds. At the same time, the average combined consumption was reduced by 0.4 l / 100 km.

Both models have exhaust after treatment. Components located in the vicinity of the engine comprise a diesel oxidation particle filter and an SCR layer on the diesel particulate filter. For optimal reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions, a second dosing unit has been integrated at the SCR outlet, mounted close to the engine. As a result, the new BMW 7 Series models powered by the new six-cylinder diesel engine meet the Euro 6d emission standard.

The mild-hybrid technology used in the new diesel-powered variants contributes to spontaneous power delivery and better efficiency. The system consists of a 48V starter generator that ensures the recovery of energy during braking and an additional lithium-ion battery for storing the electricity generated in this way.

In parallel with the introduction of the new six-cylinder engines, the latest version of the Integral Active Steering will be available on all BMW 7 Series models (https://www.spare-wheel.com/labels/bmw-cars) starting in July 2020. The optional suspension system combines a variable transmission ratio on the front axle with active steering for the rear axle. This ensures optimized agility and stability at high speeds and comfort during low-speed manoeuvres.
