HOUSTON - June 16, 2020 - PRLog -- Emancipation Park Conservancy, the non-profit charitable corporation that manages and maintains Emancipation Park, is launching a GPS-led audio guide of its Park. The guide serves as a digital supplement to the #WeAreJuneteenth celebrations in June 2020 and will continue as an audio guide feature once the celebration ends. Visitors can stream the guide by downloading the free Geotourist app on their mobile devices.

Juneteenth celebrates the culture and legacy of African Americans throughout history. It commemorates the anniversary of former slaves' emancipation on June 19, 1865, the date that came to be known as 'Juneteenth."

The 148th Annual Juneteenth Celebration hosted by Emancipation Park will focus on preserving the community's traditions of unity, music, dance, and commerce. This year, due to COVID-19, the celebration will be virtual and will be celebrated June 2nd – 19th.

The GPS-led audio guide will lead visitors to the monuments of the founders, formerly enslaved community leaders from the Third and Fourth Ward of Houston, who united residents and civic organizations to commemorate the anniversary of their emancipation by building a park of their own.

While walking in its beautifully landscaped grounds, visitors will experience the Park's thoughtful architecture and state-of the art recreational facilities that promote freedom, expressed in Liberation, Release, Opportunity and Creativity.

Emancipation Park and its historic buildings have been designated Protected Landmark by the City of Houston. The Park is part of the UNESCO Slave Route Project and the Emancipation National Historical Trail.

The audio guide is available for download on the Geotourist website (https://geotourist.com/tours/3910).
Tour information is available on the Emancipation Park Conservancy website (https://epconservancy.org/).
