CHARLOTTE, N.C. - June 12, 2020 - PRLog -- There is a lot going on in the country right now, from the coronavirus to Black Lives Matter. However, Mother Nature pays no mind to that. Hurricane season officially started June 1 and runs through November 30. The Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf have already seen some activity, and forecasters are predicting several major storms this season. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press regarding steps homeowners associations can take to make sure they're ready.

"The time to prepare isn't as the storm is approaching; it is before it even develops," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "HOAs should have plans and procedures in place to protect not only their documents and assets, but members in their community as well."

Now is the time to review insurance coverage and ensure that policies are up-to-date and meet the association's needs, says Kuester. Take time-stamped pictures of community assets and their condition ahead of time, just in case an insurance claim needs to be made in the future. The HOA should also store all of its vital documents on a remote server, at a secure off-site location, or in a waterproof, fireproof box. Should anything happen, these files should be protected.

Communicate with homeowners the importance of verifying that their own insurance coverage is current and their documents are secure. Make sure they know the designated evacuation routes in the event of a storm and have a list of supplies that they should take with them. Encourage homeowners to take storm alerts seriously and pay attention to recommendations for sheltering in place or evacuating.

"The HOA should also have an emergency plan that designates who is responsible for what," says Kuester. "This can help to keep the storm response organized and make sure nothing gets overlooked, whether it's securing amenities or talking to service providers."

Storm preparation is key, regardless of whether it's a passing severe storm or something major like a hurricane. Kuester Management Group works with HOAs to ensure they have the right processes, procedures, and plans in place for any situation.
