Follow on Google News | A Hero-Style Home Town Thank You at COVID-Negative FacilityHealth care heroes at COVID-free Roscoe nursing home honored for their service
By: Roscoe Rehabilitation and Nursing Center The event came on the heels of the facility confirming that of all of its 72 residents have tested negative for COVID-19. Roscoe has been COVID-19 free since the onset. Not only are all of Roscoe's residents COVID-19 free, but so are all the employees. As mandated, employees at the facility have been tested twice weekly to ensure the health and safety of everyone. Per the Governor's May 10th directive, hospitals are prohibited from discharging patients to nursing homes unless they test negative for the virus. As an extra precaution, Roscoe is requiring that all new admissions remain in a separate unit for 14 days after arrival. "The residents' safety is always paramount," stated spokesperson Jason Newman. "Now that the county has started opening up in phases, we can't pretend the virus has just gone away, especially because the vast majority of the population we serve is extremely vulnerable." All of the staff at Roscoe continues to be vigilant in following intensive deep cleaning protocols throughout the facility and following the recommendations of the CDC and DOH. "The Roscoe team has always been committed to excellence, and our residents are our number one priority," stated Administrator Joy Wood. "Our team fought tirelessly to keep COVID out of our facility and we won. Our COVID free status is a true testament of teamwork. Our residents are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19 and that presented a challenge right from the start." Staying COVID-free didn't happen by accident. Make no mistake; it's the continued efforts by administration and staff that have kept the residents safe and healthy. Wood went on to say, "We began screening staff and visitors prior to closing our doors on March 11th to all nonessential health care workers. We implemented protocols and took every precaution to prevent COVID from entering our facility." "This was unprecedented times and the hardest part has been prohibiting visitation, Wood stated. "Family contact is invaluable. We put in extra phone lines, email became everyone's friend and we got creative. We soon learned to Skype, FaceTime and Zoom so that our residents could continue to get the family contact and stimulation that is vital to their wellbeing."
