BATTERY ROAD, Singapore - May 28, 2020 - PRLog -- ig Red has been awarded contracts to Singapore's leading campus of higher learning, to apply its surface protection product BRShield to all high touch surfaces in the campus.

The campus is stepping up additional precautionary measures across its campus amid concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. Among the many infection control measures campus is taking, one of the most effective is to increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfection for all high-contact 'high touch' surfaces throughout the campus.

In addition to its existing cleaning and disinfection regimen and as a second line of defense, the campus has decided to use a durable coating with residual disinfection properties that destroys viruses and bacteria on frequently touched surfaces such as escalators, lifts and lift buttons 24/7 for over 180 days.

It has appointed Big Red to apply BRShield is expected to complete the application to all these high-risk surfaces before the campus opens on June 2. The treatment will remain active on all the treated surfaces for a period of at least six months and thereby providing ongoing protection to the students, staff visitors.

How does BRShield work?

BRShield is a reactive saline quaternary ammonium compound. When applied as a liquid to any surface material, the active ingredient in BRShield forms a colourless, odourless, positively charged polymer coating which chemically bonds, virtually irremovably to the treated surface.

Unlike traditional disinfectant products which only destroy pathogens during the initial wet contact time, BRShield remains effective for over 6 months. Conventional disinfectant products kill pathogens only during application and it inevitable that these surfaces will become contaminated again when next touched by a person carrying and spreading infectious pathogenic organisms.

Furthermore, sanitizing using conventional disinfectants is only effective when the proper dilution rate, method and contact time is followed. BRShield is not a conventional disinfectant, but rather, it complements and reinforces the effectiveness of existing cleaning and disinfection methods. It is proven to be effective against any microorganism with or without outer cell membranes.

Managing director of Big Red, Mr Bakhda added "I think it's mostly important for high-use surfaces like lift buttons, handrail, public transits such as taxi, MRT and buses, because you could disinfect them but then the next people that come in there will re-contaminate the surfaces."
