FAIRFAX, Va. - May 14, 2020 - PRLog -- The Committee for Police Officers' Defense, the political arm of Police Officers' Defense Coalition, launched a petition today to support new proposed legislation called the "Law Enforcement Officers Welfare and Defense Act." The goal of their newest initiative is to engage citizens around the country in this new proposed legislation and garner enough support to move this important bill to the forefront. The Committee for Police Officers' Defense (CPOD) is a nonprofit political organization that works in the political process to take on elected officials with anti-police agendas.

"We need to show our federal representatives that the people in our towns and cities support this legislation and our law enforcement officers," said CPOD President James Fotis. "Many politicians seem to believe that the public does not stand with law enforcement, and much of that is because of the media. Our petition will unify the voices of those that stand up for law enforcement, and together we will get this important legislation passed at the federal level, showing support for our officers and their families."

The Law Enforcement Officers Welfare and Defense Act includes language that will increase the sentencing for felons convicted of murdering law enforcement officials, provide federal level benefits for officers' families should they die in the line of duty, and exempt officers from civil lawsuits before and during criminal trials.

"Our officers' deserve better both in life and in case of an untimely death. Ambush, murder of law enforcement officers has been on the increase over the last 3 years, applications to become officers have dropped. This proposed legislation would better protect them and their families from some of the risks that come with the job. These protections are long overdue and it's time for us to stand up and demand better for our men and women in blue," Mr. Fotis stated.

The Committee for Police Officers' Defense is focused on helping police officers fight against the continuing "War on Cops" by taking a strong political stance against politicians, activist judges, prosecutors, district attorneys and a host of others that work against our law enforcement.
