Through their "Hold the Line" apparel fundraiser, the company's charitable foundation donated $31,881.91 to the family of Sergeant Ben Jenkins, who served with Nevada Highway Patrol's Northern Command.
Sergeant Jenkins was fatally shot in the line of duty the morning on Friday, March 27 while assisting a motorist stopped at US-93 and White Pine County at Mile Marker 106 outside of Ely.
The motorist, suspect John Dabritz of White Pine, allegedly shot the trooper multiple times and then stole his uniform and fled in the sergeant's vehicle. He was later captured and taken into custody.
Sgt. Jenkins had served with the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) for 12 years. In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Before joining the highway patrol, he served with the Army National Guard, the Air National Guard, the Nevada State Fire Marshal Division and the Nevada Division of Forestry.
A resident of Elko, Sgt. Jenkins leaves behind a wife, four children, five grandchildren, and his mother.
Through the Hold the Line fundraiser for Sgt. Jenkins, Shield Republic sold honorary t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, ladies' tank tops and decals, donating 100 percent of net proceeds to the Jenkins family.
"In the wake of this terrible loss, we are comforted by the incredible response from the Shield Republic community to honor Sgt. Jenkins," said Charlie Romero, spokesperson for Shield Republic. "This is a proud day for our organization as we donate the proceeds of one of our most successful fundraisers to date to the family of this hero."
Shield Republic's Hold the Line fundraisers have donated in excess of $200,000 this year to the families and units of fallen first responders, police officers and K9 police dogs.
