Garcia & Artigliere Sues Windsor Terrace of Westlake Village for Elder Abuse and Negligence

LONG BEACH, Calif. - May 7, 2020 - PRLog -- Since 1993, the attorneys at Garcia & Artigliere have been fighting for victims of elder abuse and negligence at nursing homes across the country. Now, the firm has filed a lawsuit against Windsor Terrace of Westlake Village, a 24-hour skilled nursing facility that failed to protect their client from suffering preventable injuries and needless pain and suffering.

When admitted to the facility in June 2019, the plaintiff had recently suffered a fall and spinal stenosis that required emergency surgery, and was therefore dependent on facility staff for all his activities of daily living (ADLs). He also had a severe gluten insensitivity and his wife had advised facility staff to avoid feeding him anything that contained gluten.

In spite of these facts, the plaintiff began to develop serious stomach and bowel problems due to consuming gluten at the facility, and these issues only continued to get worse until late August 2019 when he was transferred to Kaiser Woodland Hills for medical care. While receiving treatment, it was also discovered that the plaintiff had developed two severe pressure sores on his coccyx area, as he had been bedridden for most of his time at the facility.

Pressure sores are defined as a "never event" by the medical community for a reason: These injuries are easily preventable when bedridden patients receive the right care from nursing professionals.
