Fundraiser for Cincinnati-area police officer killed during car chase raises more than $11K

SMITHFIELD, N.C. - May 7, 2020 - PRLog -- A fundraiser organized by an American lifestyle brand has raised more than $11K for the family of a police officer killed in the line of duty in Springdale, Ohio last month.

Shield Republic Charities, the charitable foundation of patriotic lifestyle brand Shield Republic, presented a check for $11,164.83 to the family of Officer Kaia Grant on April 21. The 33-year-old officer was killed in the line of duty when a fleeing suspect with a felony burglary warrant crashed into her late on Saturday, March 21.

Officer Grant, who had served with the Springdale Police Department for eight years, was assisting in the pursuit of the suspect when she and a colleague parked along Interstate 275 to set up deflater spikes. The suspect crashed into Grant's cruiser, causing her own vehicle to crush her. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Shield Republic's Hold the Line fundraiser made available a commemorative line of t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, ladies tank tops and decals honoring Officer Grant, with 100 percent of net proceeds donated to her family.

"Nothing can bring back this bright young hero, but we hope our Hold the Line campaign will help those who loved her remember her and honor her legacy," said Charlie Romero, spokesperson for Shield Republic. "We thank our generous Shield Republic community for pulling together to support the Grant family and wish them our sincerest condolences."

Shield Republic's Hold the Line fundraisers have donated more than $200,000 this year to the families and units of fallen first responders, police officers and K9 police dogs.
