SMITHFIELD, N.C. - May 4, 2020 - PRLog -- A police officer killed in a helicopter crash last weekend in Houston, Texas will be remembered with a special fundraiser.

Shield Republic Charities, the foundation of American lifestyle brand Shield Republic, has launched a "Hold the Line" apparel fundraiser to sell commemorative  t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, ladies' tank tops and decals honoring Officer Jason Knox of the Houston Police Department. Net proceeds from the sale will be donated to his family at the close of the fundraiser.

Officer Knox was killed in the early hours of Saturday, May 2 while serving as a tactical flight officer on a mission to investigate a report of bodies near Greens Bayou. The MD 369E police department helicopter he was riding in crashed into a nearby apartment complex at the 17050 block of Imperial Valley Drive. The crash left the pilot, Officer Chase Cormier, in serious condition

Officer Knox, 35, had served with the Houston Police Department for eight years. He is survived by his parents, his wife, and two children. His father, Mike Knox, is a member of the Houston City Council.

In his spare time, Officer Knox was a car buff who had been working on a project to restore historical Houston Police Department squad cars. His first completed project involved the restoration of "Shamu the Whale," a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic he bought from a California auction and restored to its former glory. The car was displayed at the 2018 Thanksgiving Day Parade in Houston.

"We honor this special young officer, who served bravely through a dangerous mission that cut his bright life short," said Charlie Romero, spokesperson for Shield Republic. "We hope our Hold the Line fundraiser honoring Officer Knox expresses our appreciation for his service as a first responder and wish our sincerest condolences to his family and his team at the Houston Police Department."
