PHOENIX - April 29, 2020 - PRLog -- Dr. Lesley Williams-Blackwell recently authored a children's book that embraces the fact that kids come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Free To Be Me: self love for all sizes, targets elementary school aged children.  It is written by a doctor, eating disorder specialist and mom who created it to help her own young daughter who was struggling with body image issues. It features a young African-American girl who overcomes being teased about her size and learns to love and appreciate her body.

Free To Be Me: self love for all sizes is timely because body image concerns are being seen in younger & younger children. A CNN article reported that children as young as age 5 think their ideal weight is less that their current size. Poor body image has been linked to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and eating disorders. Young African-American and Latina girls are not immune to body image and eating struggles however, they are frequently omitted from the global conversations on these topics. Dr. Williams-Blackwell is hopeful that her book will spark dialogue across all communities about how children are negatively impacted when they do not feel seen, heard or included.

Free To Be Me seeks to encourage the mental and physical health of all children.
