Georgia police officer killed on duty by drunk driver will be honored with apparel fundraiser

SMITHFIELD, N.C. - April 22, 2020 - PRLog -- An award-winning officer killed on duty after being struck by a drunk driver will be commemorated with a special fundraising campaign to support his family in the wake of his death.

On Monday, April 20, Officer Christopher Ewing was on duty when his cruiser was struck around 11 p.m. by a driver on South Cobb Drive near I-285 in Smyrna. The driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Robert Lorenzo Cox of Duluth, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. He was charged with felony homicide by vehicle.

American lifestyle brand Shield Republic will honor Officer Ewing's sacrifice through a new "Hold the Line" apparel fundraiser, with net proceeds from the sale of American-made t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, ladies' tank tops and decals to be donated to his family when the campaign ends.

Officer Ewing had served with the Smyrna Police Department for two years, most recently with the Uniform Patrol Division. The 34-year-old police officer and Air Force veteran was recently recognized with a lifesaving award.

He is survived by his spouse and three children.

"Officer Ewing had a reputation for being a rising star on the force in addition to being a family man," said Charlie Romero, spokesperson for Shield Republic.
