LOS ANGELES - April 20, 2020 - PRLog -- This October marks the 10th anniversary of National Critical Illness Awareness Month.  The commemoration was initially established by the American Association for Critical Illness Insurance.

"There is an enormous need for people to understand how critical illnesses impact millions of Americans every year," shares Jesse Slome, director of the organization.   "Well beyond the health and medical impact there are enormous financial consequences on individuals and their families."

Slome initiated the event in 2011 with the singular goal of increasing awareness.  "Initially we knew insurance companies would get behind the event but I specifically omitted the word insurance from the month's name," Slome explained.  "For this event to have any impact it must expand well beyond a singular industry and I am pleased to see the grassroots effort has indeed grown over the years."

"We want to encourage using the month of October to focus on both the impact and the many important ways to prevent critical illnesses," Slome declared.  "Grass roots efforts can have an enormous impact though of course we hope that corporations and other groups will take the opportunity to create awareness."

Every year millions of Americans are impacted by critical illnesses.  "The three major ones are cancer, heart attack and stroke," Slome notes.  "But there are a number of others today that occur.  The good news is that thanks to incredible advances in medical care and treatment, most people survive a critical illness."

The Association recently relaunch their critical illness insurance website https://www.criticalillnessinsuranceinfo.org/ where data regarding critical illnesses, insurance costs and claims will be found.  "We plan to do our part this year to advocate for increased awareness and options that can benefit individuals and their families.  I encourage others to step up and get involved," he adds.

Jesse Slome serves as director of the American Association for Critical Illness Insurance, headquartered in Westlake Village, California.  To learn more about National Critical Illness Awareness Month go to https://criticalillnessinsuranceinfo.org/national-critica... or call the organization.
