Movie Production Company Formed to Produce Immigrant's Winning Screenplay

Iraqi immigrant's screenplay attracts veteran filmmaker and Hollywood.

NORTHVILLE, Mich. - April 20, 2020 - PRLog -- Ms. Weam Namou, an Iraqi immigrant living in Sterling Heights, Michigan, recently finished a feature-length screenplay titled Pomegranate that scored high in two prestigious Hollywood screenplay contests—one sponsored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Nicholl Competition, and second by Francis Coppola's Zoetrope screenplay contest. The Nicholl judges said Pomegranate was "mesmerizing, full of meaning…welcomed, refreshing, and original."

Subsequently, Pomegranate garnered the attention of veteran film producer Stan Williams of Novi, Michigan, who also works as a Hollywood script consultant. After working together on a revision of the script, they recently formed Pomegranate Pictures, LLC to develop, produce, and distribute the movie. Namou will direct and Williams will produce. They hope to shoot the film in Michigan late in 2020 or 2021.

Pomegranate is based on Namou's real-life experience as an Iraqi immigrant. It's the story of Niran, a young, politically liberal, Iraqi-Muslim refugee from Iraq who, with her family, has immigrated to the United States during the presidential election of 2016 between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton. They settle in Sterling Heights, Michigan where there is a large Iraqi settlement. The only problem is that they happen to rent a house in a politically conservative, Chaldean (Iraqi Christian) neighborhood.  As a consequence, the dramedy examines thought-provoking themes of ethnicity, religion, patriotism, family, community, the American dream and friendship.

WEAM NAMOU is president of The Chaldean Culture Center, and Unique Voices in Film. She is an Eric Hoffer award-winning author of 13 books, a speaker, journalist, and filmmaker. Her award-winning book, The Great American Family: A Story of Political Disenchantment, was recently optioned by 5 Streams, and her feature documentary of the same title has gained the representation of Jeff Porters Production in Beverly Hills, California. Namou received her Bachelor's in Communication from Wayne State University. Her poetry, essays, and articles have been published by various national and international journals.

STAN WILLIAMS is an international award-winning video producer, filmmaker and show creator of over 400 projects. He's the author of the popular Hollywood story structure book The Moral Premise: Harnessing Virtue and Vice for Box Office Success, a book that Will Smith calls "The most important tool in his new tool kit." Stan has worked directly with Will and his team on over a dozen motion picture projects that have earned over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. Stan holds an earned Ph.D. in Communications-Film Studies (Narrative Theory), an M.A. in Speech-Communications, and a B.A. in Physics. Recent credits can be found on IMDB.com.
