Doctor Wilfred Van Gorp offers advice on how to cope with isolation during the Covid-19 Pandemic

NEW YORK - April 15, 2020 - PRLog -- As New Yorkers and people across the country are forced to self-isolate, and as anxiety about Covid-19 increases, neuropsychologist Wilfred Van Gorp has been advising his patients and people with mental health challenges about how to cope with it.

In an opinion editorial in the New York Daily News, Dr. Van Gorp advises some steps people can take to care for themselves.

"It is crucial that people understand there are productive ways to manage and confront the stress and anguish many of us are feeling," he wrote. "We may not be able to control COVID-19 or predict the path of the illness, but we can organize our lives and our routines in a way that helps lessen and manage the personal stress."

Much of the stress caused by this pandemic is rooted in the fact that people feel a loss of control, he said. Dr. Van Gorp advises patients to establish a routine, stay in touch with friends and loved ones, try to stay physically active, among other tips.
