SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - April 13, 2020 - PRLog -- Big box warehouse stores are having to adopt to ever-changing security issues as a result of COVID-19. Warehouse stores are turning to security guards to ensure that all safety and health guidelines are being properly enforced, says Access Patrol Services (APS), a security guard company serving California and Arizona.

"Costco security and safety measures have tightened as stricter health mandates at local, state and national levels are announced," says Fahim Abid, APS security director. "Other warehouse stores such as Sam's Club and Smart & Final have done the same." Restrictions include allowing a maximum number of shoppers, requiring masks be worn in the store and setting hours for seniors-only shopping.

"Ensuring that shoppers abide by these new rules often falls on the shoulders of retail security guards," says Abid. "Our retail grocery security guards arrive at stores well before opening to monitor customers   lining up to enter so they are at least six feet apart and appear to be in the right demographic when age is a requirement for entry. They are on the front line, answering questions from often worried and anxious shoppers. These guards have also been trained to look for ill customers so they can be gently isolated from other shoppers."

Inside stores and where necessary, guards remind shoppers to keep their proper distance from one another. They are often stationed at checkouts to make sure shoppers only purchase the allotted amount of high-demand merchandise. They monitor employees to see if they are following store safety procedures (i.e., sanitizing checkout counters, doors, shelving—anything that is often touched by customers or employees). In addition, retail security guards are on the alert for shoplifters.
