Carrington College in Phoenix Announces New Surgical Technology Program
New program will address the shortage of professionally trained surgical technologists and help students build rewarding careers
The new Surgical Technology Associate of Science degree program combines hands-on training with career-focused instruction. Within the classroom and a new, simulated operating room lab suite, students will learn a variety of surgical procedures and how to prepare for and function in surgery, as well as sterilize equipment for operating room use. The surgical technologist student will take on-campus training to an actual operating room where they will work closely with surgeons, registered nurses and anesthesiologists on real-life patients.
"Surgical technologists are a critical part of a surgery team, especially given our current environment and demand for more medical professionals,"
The Associate of Science degree program in Surgical Technology may be completed in a few as 15 months. It combines laboratory practice with real-world clinical experience to teach students important concepts and skills relating to surgical routines, asepsis, communication and post-operative care.
Surgical technologists are qualified to work in a variety of settings including hospitals and specialized surgical clinics. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment outlook through 2028 for surgical technologists is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations as a result of advances in medical technology and more operations being used to treat a variety of illnesses and injuries.
