Follow on Google News | Annual run-walk fundraiser for community health pivots to virtual event during coronavirus pandemicCommunity Medical Clinic's 'Clinic Classic' will be held as two-week virtual race
By: Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County Instead of cancelling the annual fundraiser, however, the clinic announced today that the race is still on, just in a little different way. The run/walk Clinic Classic event, originally planned as a race through Camden's historic district, will now be held as a two-week "virtual" race in which every member of the family can log their chosen distance and performance and view race results online. Through the 2020 Virtual Clinic Classic, to be held Saturday, April 25 through Saturday, May 9, participants can pick a time and place that is convenient for them to run or walk while keeping their physical distance from others. They can use a treadmill or their favorite outdoor course. "Every member of a household of any age can participate in the Clinic Classic Camden Family Care 1-mile, McDonalds 5K or KershawHealth 8K during the COVID-19 outbreak by running it, walking it, and supporting it from a distance," said Susan Didato, development director for Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County (CMC). No immediate action is necessary for those who have registered for the race. Those who haven't yet registered can do so at cmcofkc.org. Registrants will receive their race packet by mail including a t-shirt after the event. They will also be able to download a special playlist to enjoy while walking or running. Packets can only be mailed inside the contiguous United States. During the virtual race time frame, participants will run, jog or walk the 1-mile, 5K or 8K, upload their results by the end of the day on May 9, and post their photos on Instagram and Facebook using the hashtag #VirtualClinicClassic and tagging @cmcofkc. Upon completion of the race, winners in various age categories will be announced online. "We're excited that together we can provide this opportunity for the Clinic Classic tradition to continue in a new way and are so grateful to our community for making this pivot with us," Didato said. All proceeds from the Virtual Clinic Classic will directly benefit the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County.
